Patagonia is synonymous with high quality clothing that is manufactured in an environmentally and socially conscious manner. Born out of a love for the outdoors and the mountain environment, alpinism remains the key design focus for much of Patagonia's clothing as well as skiing, snowboarding, surfing, paddling and trail running. Throughout all of these ranges a minimalist style of design is employed, with the bias being towards simplicity and utility. Patagonia's clothing is made to be practical, functional and durable.
Patagonia's production values are a reflection of the group of climbers and surfers who founded the company in the 1970's. A sense of environmental responsibility was integral then as now and this has led to Patagonia's '1% for the planet' business philosophy where, since 1985, Patagonia has pledged 1% of sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment. Along side this core principal which has seen over 35 million dollars donated to grassroots environmental groups, runs a range of other conservation programmes.
The Patagonia mission statement "Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm", embodies the company ethos which strives to minimise environmental impact when sourcing materials and manufacturing without compromising on quality.
